MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwire - May 11, 2012) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, in partnership with ASIS International, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Agricenter International, 7777 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN. Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell will provide opening remarks.
"Workplace violence takes a terrible toll on our society in terms of economic loss and more importantly in terms of human suffering," said Chief Joseph Ruff, Director of Training, Shelby County Sheriff's Department. "When we use the term violence we really mean aggression in any form. The scars from constant psychological attacks are no less real than the ones from physical attacks. We must educate our work force at every level, from CEOs to entry level employees, on how to identify workplace violence and the impending signs and provide them with clear instructions on who to tell and how to act when they or a co-worker becomes a victim."
"It is my hope that everyone involved at this seminar can learn the warning signs of workplace violence and help to reduce the risk of workplace incidents," said AlliedBarton's Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, Vice President of Learning & Development. "Nearly two million Americans are impacted by workplace violence annually and through education, awareness and a collaborative effort, we can try to lower this statistic."
Seminar discussion topics will include recognizing and preventing workplace violence; active shooter preparedness and workplace violence preparedness best practices. An expert panel will also hold a question and answer session.
Seminar attendees will receive a complimentary eBook copy of "Potential: Workplace Violence Prevention and Your Organizational Success" by Bill Whitmore, AlliedBarton's President and CEO.
Potential, www.potentialthebook.com, shows how a range of stakeholders -- from CEOs and other senior leaders to building management, human resources, contract security and law enforcement -- can work together to lower an organization's workplace violence risk and enhance its overall morale and performance.
Speakers and panel members include: Mark Luttrell, Mayor, Shelby County; Chief Joseph Ruff, Director of Training, Shelby County Sheriff's Department; Michael Hogan, CPP, Director of Security and Support Operations, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, AlliedBarton Vice President of Learning & Development.
