Expected to Welcome More Than 30,000 Attendees This July
PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - May 1, 2012) - This July, Grammy nominated headliners, cultural entertainers and powerhouse performers return to Penn's Landing for Philadelphia's largest one-day festival, Global Fusion Festival (GFF). This must-attend event, themed "Rhapsody," is a part of Global Fusion Week which runs from Monday, July 16th - Sunday, July 22nd. The highlight of the Global Fusion Week is the much anticipated FREE concert on Saturday, July 21st which brings buzz-worthy talent to Penn's Landing, Great Plaza and draws more than 30,000 attendees. Past festivals have featured an array of headline performers including Melanie Fiona, Estelle, Eric Benet, Marsha Ambrosius, En Vogue, Jazmine Sullivan, Brenda K. Starr, Huey Dunbar, Oro Solido, Bell Biv Devoe, Bobby V, DJ Jazzy Jeff and James Fortune among others.
While GFF was initially produced by the Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB), this year MAC and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) are partnering to offer an even more spectacular festival than the past five years. This event makes entertaining all ages a priority by loading the Penn's Landing, Great Plaza with non-stop multicultural performances, ethnic food vendors, a "Rhap-City" Children's Pavilion, cultural activities, vendor giveaways, and much more. Attendees enjoy rousing performances from national award-winning recording artists, dispersed throughout the day with regional and local acts that represent Philadelphia's diverse ethnic communities.
This year's theme "Rhapsody," represents the ecstatic expression GFF creates as Philadelphia's unique cultures unite for one week, in the spirit of love and unity. During Global Fusion Week, locals and visitors take advantage of fusion-themed drink specials and restaurant discounts at numerous participating restaurants and bars throughout the city. "Fusion-inspired" performances showcasing the diversity of our region are also held at select Center City venues.
"We are thrilled to offer this unique, multicultural experience to Philadelphia for the 6th year," states PCVB president & CEO Jack Ferguson. "GFF has become a staple event of Philadelphia's summer season that celebrates the diversity of our City within an all-out, week-long party, drawing Philadelphia residents and out-of-town visitors to enjoy great music, good food and absolute fun."
The Global Fusion Festival is a part of the PECO Multicultural Series at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, a series of culturally rich events where family and friends can explore the world without leaving Philadelphia. These festivals celebrate the diverse ethnic heritage of our region through, song, dance, food, and festivities. For more information, visit delawareriverevents.com.
