The Two Productions Were Captured Live in High-Definition
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 2, 2012) - Back by popular demand, Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX), via our Front Row Centre Events, the National Theatre London and BY Experience are pleased to announce One Man, Two Guvnors and Frankenstein can once again be seen at participating Cineplex theatres. One Man, Two Guvnors will be presented on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. local time. Frankenstein will be shown on Thursday, June 14 and 21 at 6:45 p.m. local time, (Galaxy Cinemas Chatham will start at 8:00 p.m.) and Saturday, June 16 and 23 at 12:30 p.m. local time.
"We are delighted to provide our guests a second opportunity to enjoy two National Theatre productions that were extremely popular with our guests, selling out when they were first offered in our theatres," said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. "One Man, Two Guvnors, now enjoying a Tony-Award nominated run on Broadway, and Oscar-winner Danny Boyle's production of Frankenstein, both sold-out during their original presentations in our theatres".
One Man, Two Guvnors
The comedy sensation One Man, Two Guvnors, winner of the Evening Standard Award and the Critics' Circle Award stars breakout comic actor James Corden (The History Boys, BBC's "Gavin & Stacey") as Francis Henshall ("One Man"). Always famished and easily confused, Henshall agrees to work for a local gangster as well as a criminal in hiding ("Two Guvnors"), both of whom are linked in a web of schemes, extortions and romantic associations... none of which Francis can keep straight. He then has to do everything in his power to keep his two guvnors from meeting, while trying to eat anything in sight along the way.
Falling trousers, flying fish heads, star-crossed lovers, cross-dressing mobsters and a fabulous on-stage band are just some of what awaits at the most "deliriously funny" (Daily Telegraph) play to cross the pond in decades. Directed by Tony® and Olivier Award winner Nicholas Hytner, Richard Bean's side-splitting comedy has a return engagement, while its hugely popular runs continue in London's West End and on Broadway.
Frankenstein
Oscar winner Danny Boyle (127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire) returned to the theatre to direct this visionary new production, Frankenstein by Nick Dear, based on the novel by Mary Shelley. Back by popular demand, National Theatre Live will broadcast two separate performances of the production. Throughout the run of Frankenstein at the National Theatre, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternated the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature, jointly winning the Evening Standard and Olivier Awards for Best Actor. Audiences will have the chance to see both combinations, with two broadcasts a week apart. Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature will be shown on Thursday, June 14 and Saturday, June 16. The Thursday, June 21 and Saturday, June 23 presentations of Frankenstein feature Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature.
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
