Lush Products Are Environmentally Friendly and Ethical in Every Sense

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - May 3, 2012) - Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics believes in the finer things in life: candlelit baths, sharing showers, massages, and a world filled with perfume. To facilitate these values, the company produces a huge collection of soaps, shampoos, lotions, fragrances and other bath products that would "make their mums proud."

Two of the original founders, Liz Bennett (née Weir) and Mark Constantine, met in the UK in the late 1970s and together started a business called Herbal Hair and Beauty Clinic. In their search for a commercial retail outlet, Constantine discovered Anita Roddick and her newest venture: an eco-minded business called The Body Shop. Since Herbal Hair and The Body Shop shared many of the same values -- sustainable ingredient sourcing, no testing on animals, and environmental consciousness from product conception to the finished result -- Bennett and Constantine became contract manufacturers for The Body Shop and worked with the company until 1987.

"They were constantly being approached by old customers, asking 'What are you going to do next?'" says Mark Lincoln, Director of Lush Cosmetics Australia. "In true entrepreneurial style, they started inventing products at home [and] taking them down to the shop," Lincoln explains, referring to the first Lush location that opened in a small town called Poole in Dorset, England in 1995. Today, the company operates 810 stores around the world.
