HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 4, 2012) - Are you toying with the idea of buying a holiday home but you can't quite decide where? Then you might be interested to hear that a study presented to the British Psychological Society last month is claiming that there are definite, measurable psychological benefits to visiting the seaside so choosing to own a holiday home by the sea would be good for you.
The study, compiled by the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, is comprised from the responses of 2,750 people from around England. Regardless of age, it seems that a visit to the seaside makes people feel consistently happier and more relaxed than an equivalent trip to urban parks or country/forest retreats. This is great news for owners of holiday homes at Haven holiday parks, who have 34 holiday park locations dotted all around the UK coastlline.
But it's not just the seaside locations that will benefit owners on Haven parks.
All owners have unlimited access to the facilities available on park with many parks offering owners only lounges and swimming pools. When you become an owner you automatically become a part of the community and 'Owners Exclusive' who offer a special programme of social events. The monthly 'Big Weekends' include activities such as chocolate making workshops, psychic live, create a fragrance and monthly themed party nights. They even have their own wine club. They hold three balls each year which are a real highlight of the owners calendar.
Always looking at ways to make life simpler for owners whilst on park they are given Privilege Plus Cards, which in addition to providing access to the aforementioned events and park facilities, can also be charged with up with credit. Not only does this mean that neither adults nor children (who can have their own cards) need carry cash around with them, but they are also given 15 per cent extra spending power each time they use the card to buy something on park.
Of course, when it comes to choosing a holiday caravan at a Haven park there are lots of options available. Each home comes equipped with as many mod-cons as a buyer would like depending on the make and model of home they choose.
The top models will have well-fitted 'ready-to-move-into' kitchens with washing machines, range-style cookers and large fridge-freezers, along with central heating and double-glazing to keep in the heat and keep out the draughts. Whilst comfortable wrap around furniture is often the norm, free-standing furniture arranged around a cosy fireplace is increasingly common in top of the range models, while even the most basic models have efficient showers and at least one loo. Up the ante and you can buy a caravan with a bathroom or a second, ensuite shower-room.
Prices vary from as little as £9,995 for a starter home to top-of-the-range luxury models in prime locations for anything up to and exceeding £100,000. That said, prices are still well below the asking price of beach huts in some of the more exclusive seaside resorts - and a fraction of the price of a seaside cottage or apartment almost anywhere in the country.
What's more, buying a caravan is also a lot easier than buying a property. Solicitors aren't necessary, you don't need a survey, and there's no stamp duty - which now runs at 3% on properties above £250,000. It really is as easy as buying a car.
In addition to regular household expenses such as gas and electricity you'll need to budget for site fees which vary depending on which park and location you select - for instance expect to pay from around £2,595 at Marton Mere Holiday Village near Blackpool to between £3,355 and £5,210 at Combe Haven Holiday Park near Hastings, East Sussex.
Many Haven holiday home owners choose the option of renting out their home at certain times of the year to help contribute towards their running costs.
