VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2009) - Fortress Minerals Corp. ("Fortress" or "the Company") (TSX VENTURE:FST) is pleased to announce the remaining results from the 2009 drilling program at the Svetloye Project, Russia.
Drill hole PDSC-294 from the Elena prospect intercepted 81.8 meters from surface grading 2.66 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, including 20.3 metres grading 6.48 g/t gold. Drill hole PDSC-293 intercepted 71.8 metres from surface grading 1.88 g/t gold, including 50.6 metres grading 2.44 g/t gold. Drill hole PDSC-289 also from the Elena prospect intercepted 74.2 metres (from 6.0 to 80.2 metres) grading 1.77 g/t gold including 62.1 metres (from 18.1 to 80.2 metres) grading 2.02 g/t gold. Please see the attached table for the remaining drill results from the 2009 program.
Fortress completed a total of 9,577 metres of drilling in 2009 at three of the target areas identified at the Svetloye Project, with highly encouraging results. The 2009 Svetloye drilling program was primarily designed to provide increased continuity of sample data for resource definition within ore zones previously defined (see Press Release dated April 23, 2009), and to determine the structural control of the Amy prospect. See the second attached table and maps for the highlights of the entire 2009 drill program.
The Svetloye Project consists of nine prospects that occur over a linear distance of eight kilometres. Prior to the 2009 drilling and trenching programs, the total inferred resources at Svetloye, including the Elena, Amy and Tamara prospects was estimated at 20.1 million tonnes grading 2.21 g/t gold containing 1.428 million ounces of gold (see Press Release dated April 23, 2009 for complete details).
Gold is associated with extensive zones of vuggy silica, quartz-alunite and quartz-dickite-kaolinite alteration. This style of mineralization is common to Pierina, Veladero and other high sulphidation epithermal deposits. Fortress owns a 100% interest in the Svetloye Project.
The Company plans to mobilize fuel and equipment to Svetloye over the winter months for next year's program. In the meantime the Company will concentrate its exploration efforts on the Malmyzh copper-gold and Limonite copper-molybdenum properties. These properties, which are accessible by road from Khabarovsk, can be drilled during the winter months (see Press Release dated October 19, 2009).
