Oakville CA Student Makes National Honour Roll

FOR: THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF ONTARIO

26 other local students pass challenging professional entry exam

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 30, 2012) - Oakville Chartered Accounting student Alexandra Slattery was one of just 27 Ontario students to make the prestigious Honour Roll for top marks on this year's Canada-wide Uniform Evaluation (UFE).

The UFE, written in September, is a national three-day evaluation that assesses competencies necessary for Chartered Accountants including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics and the ability to communicate. The UFE is an important component of the CA qualification program, which includes prescribed education, practical experience and examination requirements. Only those who complete this entire program successfully are entitled to use the internationally recognized designation of Chartered Accountant, a profession known for superior financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight and leadership. For the first time ever, these students will also earn the Chartered Professional Accountant designation, which makes them CPA, CAs.

Ms. Slattery has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and articles at KPMG LLP in Toronto. On why she chose the profession, she said: "I was actually in the finance program at McGill and I started working when I graduated but I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do long term. I had a few friends who were working for accounting firms doing their CA and it seemed like a great training program and I felt that it would open a lot of doors for me."

"My father also did his CA so I talked to him about it and he was very supportive of the idea. We spoke about the benefits and different opportunities a CA can provide and I think it is one of the most versatile designations out there."

In total, Ontario had 1,279 of the country's 3,077 successful UFE writers and captured 27 of 59 National Honour Roll spots. Joshua Huff of Waterloo captured the Canada Gold Medal as the top writer of the Uniform Evaluation in the country.

The following ten CA students who are Oakville residents also successfully wrote the exam and, upon completion of their 30-month experience requirement, have earned the right to add the letters CPA, CA to their names:
